When it comes down to it, there aren’t that many good chainsaws on the market. And to be totally honest, there really aren’t that many great ones either. That is why we’ve compiled this list, to help you make the right decision when it comes to purchasing a chainsaw that will allow you to cut firewood quickly and efficiently, without any struggle or strain or anything of that sort.
In today’s chainsaw market, there are many, many different options that you can choose from. Some chainsaws are well-liked for some reasons, while others are well-known for a whole bunch of other reasons, but all in all, most of them are just plain mediocre This is why we’re going to help you find the right chainsaw for your needs.
Let’s get started!
|Husqvarna 460 Rancher|
|DEWALT DCCS620B||9 lbs||4.7/5|
(Best for the Money)
|BLACK+DECKER LCS1240||10 lbs||4.3/5|
|Sun Joe SWJ698E||10 lbs||3.9/5|
Our top pick is the Husqvarna 460 Rancher. We aren’t the only ones who think this is one of the top choices. As of right now, it is an “Amazon Choice” due to the excellence of the product, its high-quality design, and ease of use.
This is a gas-powered chainsaw that weighs thirteen pounds. It’s twenty-four inches long, runs on a two-cycle engine, and uses LowVib features – that way it doesn’t vibrate too much and cause you to mishandle it accidentally. With a chain brake mounted to the side, the Husqvarna 460 Rancher allows you to cut firewood with tremendous ease, flexibility, and efficiency. Right now, it is the best on the market for those reasons, and for several more.
No matter what project you’re working on, you’ll handle the Husqvarna 460 Rancher with immense ease. Due to its simple, quick-handle features meant to reduce vibrating, you can use it to saw whatever you need to. Not only that, it’s positively straightforward to maneuver, and it doesn’t take long to figure out how to put gas in and successfully handle the chainsaw.
The Husqvarna 460 Rancher is our top pick due to its simple handling, well-made design, efficiency, and power.
The DEWALT DCCS620B is the runner-up on our list. This is an excellent chainsaw and if you purchase it, it will aid you very well in cutting firewood and just about everything else that you would like to cut up.
Some of the best features of the DEWALT DCCS620B are as follows: very little kickback, super-efficient motor, a compact design that weighs only nine pounds, handles easily and comfortably. To top it all off, it’s a very affordable chainsaw.
DEWALT has been in the business for a long time, so they are known for making some extraordinary pieces of equipment. This is no exception to that rule, and the DEWALT DCCS620B is a great chainsaw that is a total breeze to set up and use. With a few quick maneuvers, you can effortlessly cut up firewood.
That being said, there is a reason that it is not listed as our number one, and that is because it does tend to overheat at times. Also, the general durability of this chainsaw isn’t so good, along with the fact that it really does require a lot of extra maintenance, which seems like a bit of a time-waster. Unlike the Husqvarna 460 Rancher, the DEWALT DCCS620B is not a particularly durable product, even though it is easy to use and set up.
The WORX WG304.1 is a real bargain. Right now, you can go online and get this chainsaw for very cheap, and it comes with many excellent features that other chainsaws come with, but for far cheaper than those other chainsaws!
Using an auto-tension system that has been patented, the WORX WG304.1 stays at the right tension for hundreds and hundreds of uses, without over-tightening or requiring further maintenance. It comes with automatic oil lubrication and an oil reservoir that has an indicator on the window, which allows you to know how much oil you have and how much is needed, along with a fantastic three-year warranty that comes with every purchase of this excellent chainsaw!
This isn’t in our top two for one reason, however, and that is because it is made from plastic materials. To be more specific, the materials inside the chainsaw are plastic and this prevents you from replacing them with ease, not to mention the fact that these plastic materials are of pretty flimsy and questionable quality. While this is understandable given the price and value that you do receive, it is still something to take note of and it is the reason why it isn’t our runner-up.
BLACK+DECKER is known for making first-rate products. They’ve been in the business for over one-hundred years – since 1910 – and they’ve made a lot of good tools over the years. Unfortunately, the LCS1240 really isn’t one of their best products, and while it isn’t a bad product, it isn’t that great, either. It’s merely a passable product that will work for your needs and your purposes, but there are products that are cheaper – such as the one we reviewed up above – that are not only cheaper, but better.
BLACK+DECKER provides some excellent customer service and this is no exception. If you have a problem with the product or questions and concerns, they will help you out. As a potential buyer, this is something to take into consideration and to note. The other thing to think about is the fact that the LCS1240 has a really strong, powerful, 40V MAX Lithium Ion battery that lets you run the LCS1240 for a decent amount of time before it needs to be charged. Finally, due to the convenient handles and the way they wrap around the overall tool itself, this is an easy to use chainsaw and you can confidently maneuver and control in a comfortable manner.
The reason that it isn’t the greatest product, however, is because, while it does offer a few strong advantages, it just isn’t that great of a product. It’s expensive, and it doesn’t offer anything that is new or noteworthy to set itself apart from other chainsaws.
This is not a good chainsaw. It won’t cut firewood very well – if at all since it rarely works – and it’s simply not a well-made product at all. For that reason, we strongly recommend that you stay far away from this item.
However, since we are focused on reviewing these products, we’ll talk a little about why the SWJ698E is not worth your money.
It is made from flimsy plastic materials, and the blades do not hold up after even two uses. The chain almost never stays on due to the flimsiness of both the chain itself and the blade. Not only that, but it has been known to break after only two uses, sometimes after only one use. This is because the SWJ698E is an absolutely terrible product that is made of cheap, weak materials. This is along with a blade that is of such poor quality that it barely cuts through anything and a chain that doesn’t even work. Inevitably, you end up with a product that is just bad. Not “moderately bad,” just bad.
However, there is one good thing about the SWJ698E. It’s light and you can carry it around! So, even though it doesn’t work and there’s no actual point in having it, you can carry it around. That really doesn’t count for anything, since the product doesn’t actually work, but, hey, it’s something!
In a chainsaw, we look for a couple of key things that every high-quality chainsaw must have. In no particular order, here are the things that we look for in an excellent chainsaw:
Durability is our first and foremost concern, because if you are buying a chainsaw – or any power tool, for that matter – then it needs to be able to withstand some rigor, some pressure. If it can’t do that, if it can barely withstand anything at all, then it really isn’t that great of a product as it is unable to meet your needs. Even if it does, somehow, it probably won’t be able to do so for very long. Without strong durability and the ability to take and withstand rigor and pressure, a chainsaw is, more or less, kind of worthless and destined to not be of much use.
Ease of use is a fairly broad and encompassing topic, but it’s very important to consider due to the fact that if you are unable to figure out how to set it up or handle the frame, well, that just adds a lot more time and a lot more hassle to the whole process. Cutting firewood is already a time-consuming and difficult thing to do, but if you have to constantly fiddle with the tool that you are using, then it becomes even more time-consuming and far more annoying. However, if the product is easy to use, handle and set up, then that process becomes far quicker and more enjoyable since there’s no need to worry about anything. This is why ease of use is important, it streamlines the whole process and reduces small hiccups and hassles along the way.
If a chainsaw doesn’t handle well, it isn’t worth it, and you shouldn’t buy it. A good chainsaw needs to be able to handle well and to make good, clean cuts without any extra work on your part. You need to be able to comfortably handle and use it to make the cuts that you want. And also, to do so without any safety concerns on your part or fears that you might accidentally mishandle it due to the products own flimsiness or poor design.
This ties in with “Ease Of Use” and “How It Handles.” Weight depends on a number of things, and sometimes, the weight doesn’t matter. However, it helps if a chainsaw isn’t too heavy and if you can hold and grasp it easily, so you can cut safely, quickly, and efficiently. That is why the weight and heft of the product matters.
The Husqvarna 460 Rancher is our favorite chainsaw for cutting firewood on the market in 2019. And the best for the money is the WORX WG304.1. These are two excellent chainsaws, and we know you’ll choose wisely!
These days, there are so many different models, brands, and types of chainsaws to choose from. We hope that we’ve made it easier for you to make the right decision while informing you on some of the key factors to look into. When it comes to making an informed purchasing decision for a quality chainsaw, we hope that we’ve set you on the right path!
